Update on construction of Kaleva LibraryJune 4, 2004 The Kaleva Library Promoters announce the grand opening of the new Kaleva Library on Saturday, August 28, at 10 am. This is the result of two years of planning and hard work by Kaleva folks. The building was “dried in” by December and then a small crew of Jerry Peterson, Sr., Darwin Lagerquist, Melvin Larsen and Rick Schafer worked through the winter months on the interior. This was a tremendous contribution which allows the project to be where it is at this point: Drywall is almost complete thanks to a local drywaller, Scott John, who has donated labor, painting will follow with local volunteer, Ron Sobkoviak. Tom Evens and the Depot Crew poured cement for sidewalks. The siding is on and outside trim will be painted as soon as the weather permits. The flooring bid was awarded to Northland Flooring, a new Kaleva business, and that will be done as soon as the interior is painted. Jerry Peterson, Sr., & Jr. are going to make the trim for the interior, which will be hand finished by Virginia Niemitalo. The library “stacks” have been ordered and will be here mid-June. It is because of the volunteers that this amazing project has come together. Each and every one has given their best talents and dedicated effort to the new library, a wonderful accomplishment for this small town and the Manistee County Library system. Thanks to all! See you at the Grand Opening. |
