In 1953, the church bell rang 20 times at ten in the morning, a dubious record.
The bell pealed for our grandmother Anna Elizabeth Kangas. She smoked a corn cob pipe in her dotage in the privacy of her bedroom but,
to the family, denied smoking. Her favorite tobacco was Peerles; she would send me out to buy it.
Victor Rehbinder was of nobility. I recall him being referred to as Von Rehbinder (Rehbinteri). He was slim, carried himself proudly
and always ten paces ahead of Mrs. Rehbinder on their way to church. Men walking ten paces ahead of their spouses was obviously a
custom of the time. We witnessed the practice on summer Sunday mornings, at Osmo and Wuoski, as families walked to church.
