Cynthia Asiala: Kaleva, Michigan
Cindy started sewing doll clothes at age 7 or 8. 4-H and Home Economics classes taught her pattern reading and sewing her own clothing which she did through high school, college and her teaching years.

Her mother, Mary Alice, makes wool lap robes out of recycled clothing. Cindy does the finishing with batting, backing, and binding.

When she retired from teaching, a friend taught her to weave rag rugs and helped her find and purchase a 100 year old 2 harness loom for rugs. Her specialty is chenille rugs from old bedspreads and wool rugs from scraps left over from comforters. She also makes a variety of bags she calls rag bags from woven rug pieces as well.

She also finds an interest in old fashioned aprons which customers have commented are difficult to find.

Virginia Beldo: Kaleva, Michigan
Virginia weaves rugs on an old 4’ x 5’ loom given to her by her stepfather which was made by a local Finnish Farmer about sixty years ago. She assembled it and taught herself to use it by reading books in 1996. She uses sheet blankets, bedspreads, corduroy, and flannel shirts all of which have to be the same weight when used together and can be up to 28” wide and any length.

She took up basket weaving in 1998. She buys her supplies from a mail order company using flat reed. She makes all sizes from pencil holders to bushel laundry baskets.

She also makes baskets, quilts, crocheted edges on pillowcases, potholders, and knitted afghans.

Myla Dinger: Kaleva, Michigan
Myla started sewing at age 11 and made her first quilt in 1957. Many of her 100 or so quilts were made for family. She has received ribbons and awards for her quilts.

In 1986 she took an oil painting classes and learned to see color in a whole different light. Many canvases later in 1998, she decided to try her hand with acrylic paints and soon was painting on almost anything paintable—canvas, wood, rocks, saw blades, clothes, light bulbs, and artists fungus.

She also makes nature projects, wreaths, macramé, wire, stained glass, beading, crochet, knit, cards, etc.

Sandy Evens: Kaleva, Michigan
Sandy is a newcomer to the wonderful world of crafting. She spent the last 37 years in banking, and has decided it’s time for a change.

Sandy makes Natural Soy Candles. Her original "II Scents Worth" Collection includes a 12 oz. natural soy scented container candle nestled inside a larger container lined with soy wax of another fragrance.

As the inside container candle burns, it also melts the wax from the outer container giving off two complimentary scents at the same time.

For a touch of whimsy, Sandy embellishes each candle with painted lids and rings and a Country or Victorian "Candle Collar" connected with bead work and tin accents.
